Universal Service Fund Fee Rises to 11.4%

June 19, 2008 (Vol. 29, No. 13)

The Universal Service Fund fee your enterprise pays on interstate and international voice services increased to 11.4% for the third quarter of 2008, the FCC announced June 11.

The rate increase continues an upward trend in USF fees begun the first quarter of this year. The 11.4% fee is only slightly lower than the highest rate in recent history – 11.7% in the second quarter of 2007.

The Universal Service Administrative Company adjusts the contribution rate quarterly depending on the needs of Universal Service programs, which subsidize phone service for low-income consumers, rural health care providers, schools, libraries and residents in regions of the country where carriers incur high costs to provide service.
