Randy Hayes

Title:  Voice Services Manager
Employer:  University of Northern Iowa
Nickname/Alias:  Big Rand

What I'm Best Known For (in the Telecom World):

Legislative/Regulatory Interest & expertise.

Other Primary Areas of Expertise:

Innovative ICT management; call centers; negotiating skills; contract review; providing advice and counsel.

Summary of Professional Background:

ICT Mgr UNI—10 Years; Univ of Iowa Hospitals—10 years; Budget Marketing, Inc.—5 years. ACUTA—Board Member & Past Leg/Reg Committee Chair; Author of Monthly Leg/Reg Articles for 15 years; frequent presenter for a number of organizations.

Prediction on the Future of Telecom & Telecom Managers:

Continued Convergence; Great believer in Predictive History and the use of predictive analysis…..so predict we will continue to see the cyclical nature of the ICT industry; TCom managers who acquire IT expertise and take the lead in knowledge and implementation of IP Telephony and other leading-edge technologies will increase in value and not be displaced, while those who maintain the status quo and follow the IT shop in IP-Telephony and other implementations will be relegated to a lesser-and-lesser supporting role, until their position is eliminated.

Weirdest Thing People Usually Don't Know about Me:

Is that I really do have a life outside ICT!!

When I'm not talking or doing something in relation to telecom, I'm usually...

Studying issues involving the European Union, traveling, or trying to relax just a bit!

Book and author I'm currently reading:

Re-reading “The Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren, and “The Good Life” by Chuck Colson

CD currently or most recently in my car stereo:

Radio Listener - NPR & Gospel Station

The stupidest thing I've ever seen anyone do or say in relation to a phone:

Professor arrived with large paper bag, stating “I think I broke my phone.” Bag contained about 50 pieces of a telephone. Prof said he broke the phone when he dropped his desk on the phone...I asked, “How many times???
