Keith Shaw

Title:  Programming Director
Employer:  Network World
Nickname/Alias:  Never had a nickname that I'd publicly divulge

What I'm Best Known For (in the Telecom World):

Cool Tools columnist / Cool Tools video show

Other Primary Areas of Expertise:

Wireless LANs, Home Networking, anti-spyware, mobility

Summary of Professional Background:

10 years as a technology journalist; 20 years in journalism overall (newspapers mostly).

Prediction on the Future of Telecom & Telecom Managers:

Telecom managers will need to know about mobile phones, VoIP, wireless LAN (especially voice over WLAN). Continuous merging with the IT group (network side).

Weirdest Thing People Usually Don't Know about Me:

Co-founder of Taquitos.net, which has reviewed more than 3,300 snack foods.

When I'm not talking or doing something in relation to telecom, I'm usually...

Hanging with family, watching TV or playing video games. I'm getting really good at Guitar Hero II.

Book and author I'm currently reading:

Trying to finish "Olympos" from Dan Simmons.

CD currently or most recently in my car stereo:

iTunes mix that includes new 'Defying Gravity' single from Idina Menzel; but most of the time I'm listening to ESPN Radio on Sirius.

The stupidest thing I've ever seen anyone do or say in relation to a phone:

At a newspaper in Lawrence, Mass., the city editor had the annoying habit of always slamming down the handset into the holder, as if that was the way you were supposed to hang up the phone. I found out later that he didn't own a home phone, so he really did think that in order to hang up, you had to slam it into the receiver as hard as possible.
