Rob Enderle's Rap Sheet

Rob Enderle

Title:  Principal Analyst
Employer:  Enderle Group, San Jose, Calif.
Nickname/Alias:  Wonderboy as a kid (had a knack with technology)/ Just go by Rob now – people won’t let me wear the cape…

What I'm Best Known For (in the Telecom World):

Pointing out the negatives in a product that is being overhyped by the vendor bringing it to market and finding interesting products that aren’t very well known.

Other Primary Areas of Expertise:

I’m a technology generalist, get bored easy, and follow mostly personal technology ranging from portable MP3 Players, Cell Phones, and Game Systems, to Bladed PCs, Think Clients, and Virtualized Applications in the enterprise space.   I’m the guy folks call when they can’t find anyone else on a tech topic.

Summary of Professional Background:

I have three Degrees and a Professional Certificate.   I was eclectic and covered marketing, computer science, manpower management, accounting, merchandising, and business administration in college.   After college I was a COO, Security Specialist, Sheriff, Internal Auditor, Competitive Analyst, Market Analyst, IT Analyst and the last time I worked for a large company I was the Senior Research Fellow (there is only one).   I’ve worked for ROLM, IBM, Dataquest, Giga Information Group, and Forrester.

Prediction on the Future of Telecom & Telecom Managers:

The long term future has this function largely converged into overall IT and mostly a function of Network Management.  Much of both likely will eventually be outsourced due to economies of scale.
This likely would have happened years ago if it hadn’t been for regulation, but the consolidation of the telecom industry back into AT&T suggests we are approaching that time again.

Weirdest Thing People Usually Don't Know about Me:

Spent 4 years in acting classes.

When I'm not talking or doing something in relation to telecom, I'm usually...

Playing City of Heroes.

Book and author I'm currently reading:

Wit’ch War – Book Three of the Banned and Banished by James Clemens

CD currently or most recently in my car stereo:

The Great Burrito Extortion Case (Bowling for Soup).

The stupidest thing I've ever seen anyone do or say in relation to a phone:

That people will pay whatever the carriers charge because they don’t have a choice.
